Washington University sports medicine physicians specialize in pediatric, adolescent and adult sports medicine. They treat professional and amateur athletes of all sports
This sports medicine service is the official medical provider for the
St. Louis Rams

St. Louis Blues

Washington University Varsity athletics
, and Troy and Lafayette High Schools in Missouri. They also provide care for various athletic events such as the
GO! St. Louis Marathon
, as well as local and national soccer events.
Number of procedures
This group treats more than 3,500 new patients a year, with the total number of outpatient visits exceeding 10,000 annually.
Specialized services
The sports medicine service follows a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of sports-related injuries. Through a close relationship with experts such as physical therapists, athletic trainers, physiatrists and sports nutritionists, our physicians provide comprehensive patient care for athletes of all levels and abilities.
Commonly performed procedures include: anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscectomies (removal of knee cartilage), rotator cuff repair, treatment of shoulder instability, knee ligament reconstruction and revision, arthroscopy of the upper and lower extremities (knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle and hip). Other procedures performed include :
Meniscal transplantation
Ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction of the elbow ("Tommy John" procedure)
Cartilage transplantation
ImPACT concussion testing
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections
Osteochondral autograft transfer (OATS) procedure / Mosaicplasty
Revision posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction
Revision anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction
High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO)
Distal Femoral Osteotomy
Multi-ligamentous reconstruction of the knee
Patellar stabilization
Hip arthroscopy
Labral repair of the hip
Femoralacetabular impingement of the hip
Autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI)

The level of advanced arthroscopic techniques available through our fellowship trained sports medicine physicians offer better options for treatment than can be found at most medical centers in the United States. Our surgeons are able to evaluate sports injuries using the latest technology in surgical and non-operative treatment methods, then work with the patient to decide upon the most appropriate treatment.
